 For just over a century now, large numbers of smokers have claimed Marlboro as their favorite choice of cigarette brands. Manufactured by Altria, these cigarettes became most famous during time periods when advertisements were used, including the "Marlboro Man", as well as the early 1920's slogan "Mild as May". Since the early 1900's, vast amounts of smokers have been turning to this brand for their smoking enjoyment. The clientele of Marlboro cigarettes is as diverse as the brand itself with its unique flavor, strength and variety of styles they provide.
A man named Philip Morris was an English-based cigarette manufacturer who first thought of branching out cigarette production to the United States to widen their marketing and selling market to more people, in more areas and to make his business a more profitable venture. Mr.Phillip Morris opened his first American subsidiary to sell many cigarette brands, including Marlboro, in 1902. Although the brand was taken off the market after the end of World War II, its popularity returned in the 1950's, when Marlboro started making cigarettes with filters. This was around the time that the Surgeon General started issuing warnings about smoking un-filtered cigarettes. "Filtered cigarettes" were then considered a safer alternative to the un-filtered ones. Since the filter will catch some of the harmful chemicals that are given off from a cigarette, please were more apt to give Marlboro another try.
The Marlboro brand of cigarettes gets its name from its original location. It is named after the street of the first London Marlboro manufacturing factory -- Great Marlborough Street. While the original London location was once the biggest cigarette factory belonging to the brand, the largest production factory is located in the United States -- in Richmond, Virginia.
Today, there are many different styles of cigarettes made by Marlboro, and all of the types are filtered cigarettes. Marlboro no longer offers unfiltered types because they feel they are offering a better quality product to their customers. The types the company does offer include:
- Marlboro full flavored
- Marlboro kings/100's
- Marlboro lights
In addition, there are ultra lights available for the light smoker, and medium flavored cigarettes, for the smoker who wants more than a light cigarette, yet less than a full flavored one. For the smoker who prefers menthol flavor, most of the styles Marlboro offers are available in menthol flavor, as well as non menthol.
